An EMR or EHR software
provider is deemed as certified if the software is certified by the Office of
the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology Authorization
Testing and Certification Bodies (ONC-ATCB). Any EMR or EHR undergoing such a
certification is called Certified Electronics Health Records Technology
(CEHRT).
Doctors are seeking a
CEHRT provider as these softwares satisfy the basic mandates to qualify for getting
certified.The mandates include the following:
- Easy portablity of medical data: Electronic Medical Records software - EMRs function as a CMS for patient information. The patient information should be both exhaustive and suitably structured so as to help a patient view, edit, import, export, and exchange the information with other doctors (in the form of EHRs) in a hassle free manner. This patient information, also called the clinical data set, in a certified EMR will automatically encompass the necessary details so as to simplify the process of arriving at a prgnosis. Furthermore, a CEHRT will be accessible on online and transmit data as required.
- Security and privacy of data: In a certified EMR, the clinical data set and other patient related information are secured and a patient’s privacy is protected. This ensures that doctors get access to untampered data which enables better diagnosis and cure.
